Africanized bees (killer bees) and European bees are the most common types of bees in Arizona. European bees are relatively calm and won’t attack unless they feel that you threaten their hive.
On the other hand, Africanized bees aggressively defend their hive. They frequently attack people and animals who unknowingly wander into the territory near their hives. They also pose a serious health risk because they attack in greater numbers and pursue intruders for greater distances. Killer bees are easily agitated by everyday noises or vibrations (from cars, people walking, talking, etc.) in the territory near their hives and are also more likely to attack dark colors.
Assume the bees are killer bees and avoid disturbing them. Don’t make sudden movements, loud noises or try to spray or throw anything at the hive. Avoid swatting at bees buzzing around you, and warn neighbors so they can also stay safe. Leave the hive alone and contact your local pest control expert for bee elimination.
